Research Experience
* Structure and function of gastric mucin. Isolation, purification and characterization of glycoproteins.
Collaborated with physicists to study the flow of HCI through solutions of gastric mucin in vitro (viscous fingering)
* Regulation of mucin release, effect of neuropeptides (Substance P, neurotensin, CRH) and stress on intestinal mucin release and mucosal permeability, in vitro and in vivo.
* Studies on acid inhibitory factor proteins, preparation of gastric, epithelial cells aminopyrine, uptake assay
* Standard biochemical and microbiological techniques (column chromatography, ELISA, density gradient studies, fluorescence spectroscopy for hydrophobic binding studies, SDS-Page
* Clostridium difficile infection (cryostat sections, immunohistochemistry, cell cultures, rat models)
* Bacterial cultures and biochemical identification, antimicrobial assay tests
* DNA extraction, PCR sequencing
